In May and June there typically are 2 special offerings sponsored by the Mission Committee.
The first is The Mother’s/Father’s Day Offering which supports the Sunnyside Communities Fellowship fund. Sunnyside Communities was founded as a Presbyterian Ministry in 1912 and serves more than 800 older adults in 3 retirement communities in Harrisonburg, Waynesboro and Martinsville. The fellowship fund provides financial and personal resources for residents who can no longer fully pay their way.
The second is The Pentecost Offering which will be collected on Pentecost Sunday. This offering is a Presbytery wide offering and is to help the church encourage, develop and support its young people. It is also to address the needs of at-risk children. 40% can be retained by our congregation for use in our own community, and 60% is used to support youth, children at -risk and young adults through ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
The Presbytery has challenged congregations to increase our giving to Missions by 10% this year. Let us prayerfully consider how we can meet this challenge!
